Prices returning to normal looks like

Post by brickmanDan on Tue 22 Sep - 20:59

In the past month or so around here the bottom seems to have fell out of AR style rifles. Ive seen several for around 7 to 800 bucks. AK's and sks's though seem to be staying a little high compared to what im used to...of course i bought a crapload of sks's for under 100 bucks and case of ammo for another 80 or so. whats it like in you guys area?

Well prices have come down considerably. I bought my black combat weapons, a Taurus PT1911 for $375 and my DPMS AR15 for $650 all decked out with goodies and a hard case. .45 ammo for $15/50 or $30/100 and Remington .223 FMJ for $9.99 at Wally World and Silver Bear .223 at $27.50/100 plus s&h online.

How do you like it? I've been thinking about getting a DPMS Panther.

Jack,
I had very little interest in the AR15 type guns for a long time. This one hanging around the shop gave it time to grow on me and now that I have it, I wonder why I didn't get one sooner. They are extremely customizable to suit your needs, but decide up front if you want the carry handle upper or a flat top. It is costly to change. I have the carry handle upper and scope mounted on top. I thought that would be a problem but I like it, and the scope mount detaches with one thumbnut. Which gives me the iron sights for defensive purposes or stick my dot sight on top. regardless of which optics are in place you can still use the peeps if you use the B Square mount. Not sure of other mounts. But if you want a scope as low as possible to the bore, a flat top is a must. BUIS can be mounted on the flat top rail but you might not be able to use them with scope mounted, depending on mounts I guess. I have not had any experience with a flat top AR yet.

Feeding and ejection has been flawless. My handloads shoot quite well, as does FMJ commercial ammo. Chambering has always been positive on the first round every time. Checking it with the forward assist does not yield any movement. I am quite satisfied with mine, although I did feel the need to do some very minor trigger work on it. Just polishing machining marks on sear and hammer, no change to angle or engagement depth. And a slight reduction in spring tensions. Much smoother and lighter trigger while being no where near dangerously light. Smooth and safe, the way I like it. There are numerous drop in trigger kits also, but I chose an improved factory trigger for now.

I was going to ask the same thing. How do you like your DPMS? We negociated a contract with them to get "deployment rifles" at the end of the tour. They were around that price bare bones, other than our crest and insignia engraved on the lower receiver.

I have a DPMS flatop. Never had a minutes problem out of them.

Are deployment rifles full auto's converted back to semi for civilians?
