new revolver

Post by loc&load on Sun 5 Jul - 19:59

I'm 46 years old and still act like a kid at Christmas when I get a new gun. I been wanting a 44 spl. bulldog for a long time and was looking at getting a charter arms bulldog, than the other day I was talking to a friend of mine and the subject came up and he said he had a ss S&W mod 696 in 44 spl. he would probably be willing to part with, so after a little conversation he mentioned wanting a glock, so after a little nagociating and being I own several glocks of the same mod 22 we made a trade. I'm very pleased with the S&W, as I said, it is SS adjustable sights 3" barrel. very acurate with federaal 2000gr lead hp and blazer 200gr gdhp. It a bit heavy but I think it still lighter than my mod 22 with 15 rds. in it. I just wanted a change in a carry gun. don't know why been carring the Glock for 8 yrs,but I do. Ordered a holster from Triple K out of Texas probably take a couple of tries to get the right fit for comfortable carry, but its just fun going though the routine again.
Does anyone have a mod 696? do you like it? 44spl. ammos hard to come by right now but I don't need as much as I do for my ar's or sks's, All coments welcome

ahhh...... the .44spl, a fine carry cartridge! I think you made an excellent trade. Ammo may be a touch expensive and somewhat scarce but you should be able to find some. The .44spl would be a fine choice for some lead bullet reloading adventures for plinkng. I dont own one but i do own a .44 magnum that i load for down to 44spl velocities for range practice.

You got the better of the two brands. Good trade.

What Joe said, though the Bulldog never was meant to weather hundreds of rounds, it served a purpose as a carry a lot, shoot not much type gun.

The big bore "snubbies" have always had a following. For serious use, they shade a 38 or even 357 by a large margin down range energy.

I would say you made a great trade.

You'll like the .44spl. Blazer is making an aluminum cased 200gr GDHP that wasn't super expensive last time I bought it.

I found 4 boxes of the blazer alum case GDHP for $33.95 a box. That the only 44 spl. ammo I found in a 50 mile radius of were I live. I shot 20-30 rds. seem it'll do fine. got a friend going to reload some for me when I get some brass. The more I carry and shoot this696 the more I like it.
