Re: Glock 23 At 230 Yards
Interesting video, especially with the lousy trigger found in a Glock. It would be interesting to know how large the gong is as well. If the ram behind it is any clue, the gong is a couple feet diameter. If that was the same gong used with the 44 Blackhawk, a very good shooter should have banged it near 90% of the time.
I am not saying I could bang it that many times with a 44, but would have few doubts about hitting it once or twice within a cylinder full.
And I have seen lots of guys that could shoot that well, those that shot the old IHMSA game, where the targets were life size, chickens at 50, pigs at 100, turkeys at 150 and rams at 200.
Now the perfect clean scores were shot laying down, but the standing guys did real well too. In fact after awhile, the guys shooting bolt action pistols were having shootoffs on chickens at 200 meters, and it got to be old hat to have them go on multiple times.
Granted, laying down with a race type gun, shooting a rifle cartridge. The guys shooting revolvers did not quite make that level of performance, not due to the shooter, as much as the gun and round being shot simply wont fly well enough.
But there were clubs in the south, back in the day, that shot 600 yards with the heavy frame Colt and Smith 44 and 48 Specials, and hitting targets a few feet wide and tall.
Of course again, many claim it cant be done, well, I know different, having accomplished similar tricks, and seen other better shooters do even better.
its like a lot of long range shooting, ranges to practice on are far and few between, few ever get the opportunity to play around on long range shooting especially east of the MO river.
But even if that gong was large, you wouldnt want that guy shooting at you with a 29 or Blackhawk, he could just about call his shots on the right or left shirtpocket with a better gun.

Im as a big a Glock fan as anyone but until you have felt the trigger in finely tuned 1911 or a finely tuned wheel gun like a smith or a colt you havent felt a good trigger. I know exactly what ron is talkng about.

But comparing Glocks to a finely tuned 1911 is like comparing apples and oranges.

But tell me this, would you want to have a 1911 in a shoot out or a Glock? Now everybody knows how much a 1911 jams up, I don't care how much you paid for one 1911 are bad about jams. To be honest I would rather have a XD then a 1911 if the SHTF and I hate XDs.....brickmanDan wrote:GunNut wrote:But comparing Glocks to a finely tuned 1911 is like comparing apples and oranges.

And tell me this how does a trigger have anything to do with making a long shot with a hand gun? I've made long shots with a Ruger P89 and you know how bad those triggers are on a Ruger.

Re: Glock 23 At 230 Yards
Hitting that far with any pistol is quite a challenge. Last video i watched guy was shooting at 200 yards with a snub nose 38, and popping the balloons so it can be done.
Now, tell me all about the 1911's and their jamming up. How many have you shot and what did you shoot, some cheap ass knock off built where? A properly built 1911 does not jam any more than any other properly built gun. But like anything you can tinker to much and get worse results than before. And also, how many XD's have you shot? one bad one maybe, so therefore they are all bad?
What difference does a good smooth light trigger pull make in target shooting? try one and find out for yourself as you don't seem inclined to believe us about it. I can certainly tell you that going from a 10 pound gritty pull to a 3 pound smooth pull made one hell of a difference in the grouping of my AR using peep sights or the halo sight.
Hell i have made a few long shots with an old pirate style 50 cal black powder pistol so any gun will do it now and then, but if you want it to be the norm instead of the exception things have to be right and a good smooth light trigger is defiantly a help.
You need to lighten up about the glocks dude. They are not God's gift. Personally i wouldn't have one, but more than once i have recommended them to someone looking because i thought they would fill the job that was needed. I have 2 45 cal XD's that are accurate, easy to shoot and i consider 14 rounds more than enough to get the job done unless you just like to spray and pray like the boys from da hood... I also have 2 of the Taurus guns that pretty much give the same results and i would put any of them up against your glock any day in target shooting.
Glocks are fine guns, but they are not by any means the end all of guns. Simply to many others out there that are just as good, and just as bad. Every gun i have ever seen has good points and bad points. The task is to find the one that covers your weakness and shines with your abilities.

Given the choice between MY 1911 and MY glock i would choose the Glock for a combat situation. Reason being that I have practiced far more with my Glock than any other pistol I own. Now if I needed a gun that I couldnt under no circumsstances risk a jam or problems I would use a wheel gun, hands down.
Like James said above all guns have their pro's and con's. No one gun can fulfill all roles 100%. Its up to the man handling the weapon to make the best decision on which to use. Oh and by the way, I have Ruger,Smith,Glock,Tauras,Colt and even a HIGH POINT! GASP!!!! Pretty much the full spectrum of handguns from cheap to the not so cheap. All of them serve the purpose for which i purchased them for or expect to use them.
As far as triggers helping in long range shooting.....well the factory trigger is generally the first thing to go on any gun Im expecting to do some serious target work with. Trust me it helps.

Well I've shot 2 Kimbers that jammed up at least 1 time out of 30 shots. And I was at a range and a guy was shooting a Dan Wesson and it jammed alot he keep blaming it on the ammo. I was shooting the same ammo, and my Glock didn't jam up one time.

Might have been bad magazines or even a limpwristing or the gun or the gun could be just as you think ....a complete turd. Several factors come into play for sure and one should not just go on others experiance totally in a decison on which one is a turd and which one isnt. Kinda similar to the Ford vs Chevrolet argument......even though we all know Ford always built a better truck!

I think you meant to say Chevy built a better truck._________________

Bring your Chevy up here and we will hook em up on blacktop and see who has the better truck.

Can I get in on that action?
Ford VS Chevy VS Dodge. May the best Dodge, I mean truck, win. 8)
