OOF.
Bonedaddy, I can attest to Ron's accuracy as well as his knowledge.
while we differ on a few things, Ron's been around awhile and loves to shoot.
You have to figure..the guy's about as old as dirt. (no offense, Ron)
that tends to lead to accumulation of knowledge.
If you like patridge type sights, look around and pick some up. have them installed.
I hope they work for ya!
Ron was simply trying to pass on knowledge either learned or researched to support a known fact.
he's right..most pistols are made to be used between 10-15 yards...or "gunfighting" range. Other pistols that are target grade (such as the browning medalist) use exactly the type of sights that Ron talks about.
I know..I like to shoot postal matches and LOVE a .22 pistol match. I have the honor of shooting a .22 browning medalist and when I don't shoot that I shoot a .22 colt woodsman that my brother lets me use.
I submit that instead of disparaging a guy who's trying to help you out, take it with a grain of salt and do what you like with your pistol. If you actually succeed then you can always submit that as proof that you were right. I have a good friend who's first pistol was a cougar. he loved it! right up to the day when he bought a Springfield EMP.
He then confessed to me that he liked the EMP much more..I can understand why. the sights are much clearer, easier to acquire with and the firearm is more accurate all around.
Guess what type of sights they use?

flash sight acquisition isn't something learned overnight. That's why you'll see folks on here constantly speak of practice.
as for me? I'm the same...If I remember correctly, I spent 3,000 dollars last year in ammo alone. that was simply to replace the HANDGUN ammo I and my wife used up while practicing.

I'm not even going to say what I spent buying rifle ammo..some of that was from a slush fund and if my wife found out I spent that much I'd be wearing my tail on my shoulders...

I don't mean to offend anyone but all that knowledge and experience still hasn't helped. Block sights, just like peep sights take a lot of practice to instinctively know "center" when you see it. I'm just saying that I never had that problem with the partridge style. One less thing to have to practice with. My Aunt Bobbie could outshoot with her iron sights most guys I ever saw using scopes until the target got too small to see. She didn't care for block type sights either. My main problem is that I can't find any sights like I want. My Stoeger is as accurate as any 1911 I ever shot but would be easier with better sights. Looks like I'll have to do something myself. I already made it better just by putting adhesive back metal strips on either side of the front blade to take away the "air" but I know it could be better.
