I bet the recoil velocity is too high for a blowback system and the cases are rupturing, when the case is partway out of the chamber before teh bullet leaves the barrel. A locking breech design would be perfectly safe. Or a delayed blowback.

Seems like someone sure dropped the ball on the design, if thats the reason. I have yet to hear any reason of cause as yet, by anyone in the loop.

I do, but it sure aint no 17 HMR, its an old wildcat, called a 17Ackley Bee, it send out a 20 grain bullet at 3800 FPS give or take. And since there is basically no recoil, you often get to see the critter being shot explode in red vapor. Cool

If a person has never shot a round with that much velocity, and truth be known, only a handful offer it, and many dont even come close.

But its like you touch the trigger, and the impact is "right now", the difference is noticeable over most common rounds.

The 17 HMR seems to be the hottest thing since sliced bread, I see the brass laying all over, but the guys that have it, must be richer than me, cause the ammo is not cheap.

Course for the non reloaders, its a good way to get a safer varmint round, for shooting close to settled areas. Not that it can keep up with one of the classic 17 rounds, but it has a place in the gun cabinet for many shooters I suppose.

Well, the 17 bore size is the only thing thats the same. P O Ackley slew a whole bunch of wild donkeys with it, before the days of Wild Horse Annie, so it shades a pellet gun by some margin.
