Do you have a "priceless" gun?

Post by brickmanDan on Fri 5 Sep - 17:57

I like so many of you have a firearm that was given to you buy a family member as a first gun or a family hierloom after you started to shoot and was just wondering what it might be? Ill go first, the first gun was a mossberberg 835 given to me by my Dad when iwas 14 years old. Not a collector gun but i wouldnt take farm in Georgia for it. My other one is a pre-64 model 94 in 30-30 that my grandmother bought my grandfather for their 2nd wedding anniversary in 1956. And i wouldnt take 5 farms in georgia for it! I used it a couple of years ago to kill the largest buck ive ever taken. The buck scored 129 iches boone and crockett. Not the biggest deer but i was very proud to have taken it with a gun my grandfather had given me. I shot it open sights at about 12 yards and dropped it on the spot. So let here some of your stories.

None of mine are priceless by the definition in this thread, but some I would sure hate to get rid of, it took so long to get them.

I have a cheap little walmart special. Marlin Model 60 .22 that belonged to my brother that he got when he was 10yr old (so that made me 7). We both learned how to shoot with it. I let my boy take his first stots with it & also my wife. I lost him to a car wreck in '04 & had to fight his girlfreind for it. She said it meant so much to her because he let her shoot it. I have not seen or heard from her since we burried him. I can't believe some people.

I also got his Remington 700 7mm mag., Winchester1200 20ga, Wincherster 30/30, & the cute little North American arms .22mag.
The marlin means more to me than all the others. I'll save them for his boys if they want them & are responsible enough. I don't know I never see them.

Old Colt 1911

Post by pierogi on Sat 6 Sep - 21:46

My Dad traded a Spanish-made .25 auto for a Colt 1911 made in 1916 about, this trade when I was about 5. The .25 ALWAYS jammed when the old man fired it, so the story went, but the guy getting it was not told that. He insisted on test firing a shot, which was done in our basement (Chicago area!), and the gun did NOT jam. What a trade!

That 1911 was the first handgun I ever was allowed to fire, one round, when I was 10. (NOT in the basement). My Dad died in 1972, and I have the Colt safely tucked away. Wish I knew who to leave it to, as I'm close now, myself.....

Same here - nothing I have is exactly rare, maybe a few less common pieces - but I wouldn't get rid of any of them! I hear about too many folks parting with things only to regret the decision in the future. I hate regrets so I'll just keep it all! 8)

I own Dan Wesson's Razorback (#84 of the first 150.) This part of the famed 10mm Auto pistol's 'first run' is near and dear to my heart! My wife Shelley bought it for me. We are now a piece of 'firearms history.' (Since she bought it for me, she has learned fo love guns for what they are.) This is, above all else, my favorite firearm, and will stay with me until I "pass from this scene."

I don't have any guns that are of any particular value but I have a couple that I would not sell for anything.

Century Arms AR-15A2, .223 Cal.
Rock Island Armory 1911A1, .45 ACP

I've been told that I will enherit the firearms owned by my father-in-law and father, including shotguns and rifles which were bought by my great grandfather and great uncles. These guns will never be sold! Some may not be worth a lot but they are family heirlooms.

1903 Remington 870
16 Gauge Damascus Twist shotgun
Winchester Model 37 Redletter
