Marksmanship Still Applies in Combat

Marksmanship Still Applies in Combat
A member of ICCF, who is deployed to and actively engaging our enemies in Afghanistan, recently informed me via Email that solid, basic, rifle marksmanship principles still apply in actual combat.
In a recent reinforced squad-sized combat patrol, our man, a highly trained long-term member of the Army and Appleseed qualified rifleman, along with four other of his Soldiers who are also Appleseed qualified rifleman, and some “specials”, engaged in an assault on a “mid-level bad guy” and his crew that turned into somewhat of a running battle.
Our man’s words here “they fought back with AKs, RPG's and PKM's”…“in this chaos, Appleseed still applied. Even though it wasn’t a "quarter-mile” the same lessons, NPOA, and all the steps became very important.”…”I know that Appleseed is focused more on opening eyes and basic marksmanship, but it really does apply to real world shooting Combat.”
Thank God, our man and friends had no KIA but unfortunately, they had two seriously wounded. The opposition didn’t not fare as well…
I am proud to say that my oldest daughter, Gina aka lilkilogulf, had sent “our man” some AQT Targets so the others could train and qualify. “The targets that Gina sent were helpful in this by verifying Zero's and the targets you sent are keeping us sharp. Thanks for everything.”
The bottom line here is that there is no substitute for basic marksmanship skills, especially with a rifle or shotgun. All other firing methods such as Reflexive fire, Quick Fire, Point Shooting, et cetera, are an adjunct to, not substitute for, sighted fire as we here at ICCF have been saying for many years.

That's very interesting info from one of your members that is actually on the front line. Thanks for sharing it and I'll keep him as well as all of our brave men and women that are risking their lives for our country.

3/71 Cavalry - Titans

Fiddler's Green
Half way down the trail to Hell,
In a shady meadow green.
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped,
Near a good old time canteen.
And this eternal resting place,
Is known as Fiddlers' Green.
Marching past straight through to Hell,
The Infantry are seen.
Accompanied by Engineers,
Artillery and Marines.
For none but shades of the Cavalrymen,
Dismount at Fiddlers' Green.
Though some go curving down the trail,
To seek a warmer scene.
No Trooper ever gets to Hell,
Ere he's emptied his canteen.
And so goes back to drink again,
With friends again at Fiddlers' Green.

These guys are the best...we support them as best we can and pray for them continually.
