Dominant Eye?

Dominant Eye?
I am right handed, left eye dominant. I have absolutely no problems with shooting pistol or rifle. Many say if you are right handed and left eye dominant, you should either retrain your eyes to right eye dominant OR switch and shoot left handed. What seems to be the general consensus among the members here?...Regardless, I will not retrain my eyes nor switch to left hand primary. I am happy and competent just being unusual...LOL...

Re: Dominant Eye?
My cousin is right handed and left eye dominant. It looks odd seeing the way he holds the pistol but he is very effective with it.

Re: Dominant Eye?
This can be a stone bitch kitty for a shooter. My sister did her masters thesis on the subject. Its amazing how many of lifes tools are made for R H and R eye dominance.
Baseball gloves for example. Scissors. But it really shows in shooting, as the L Eye person trys to bend their head over the stock. And one is better off keeping both eyes open shooting either rifle or handgun.
Some guys can squint a little which helps keep depth perception.
I suggest doing a little more research on it, cause it is a real issue to fight for those affected.
With me, I have R Eye dominance, but am near sighted in the R eye, and far sighted in left. the left often takes over in shotgun shooting and I miss by a mile.

Re: Dominant Eye?
I must be a freak or something. I can shoot right hand right eye, right hand left eye, left hand right eye, ah you get the picture. Of course I'm at my best shooting right hand, but I can use both eyes and still get a good shot in. I remember my shooting instructor looking at me funny every time I would start out with the left eye, reload, then shoot with the right eye.

Re: Dominant Eye?
On the rare occasions when I get to practice, I try to get both hands in gear. Being right eye dominant, shooting right handed is easy. When I shoot left handed,I have a tendency to offset the revolver to use the right eye. I have to make an effort to use the left eye. Hopefully with enough practice (good luck on that one) I will be able to shoot left handed with either eye.

Re: Dominant Eye?
Handguns it does not make any difference, only way its even noticed, is when rifles or shotguns are in play. When they are used, there is no way to keep both eyes open, if the master eye, is opposite shoulder is the master hand.
Now if you closed the eye opposite too the sights or scope I guess you could.
If you see someone shooting a rifle or shotgun, and they have their head cranked way over the top of the stock, than that is evidence of master eye issues.
but again, handguns, it wont be noticed one way or the other.
